C’est si bon Memory and nomadism of media songs, in Brazil
This paper aims to present a synthesis from the research project entitled "The Song of the media: memory and nomadism.", I have been carrying on since 2004, with the collaboration of researchers from Music and Media Studies – MusiMid. The main theoretical lines have been the works by Paul Zumthor, R. Murray Schafer, the semiotics of culture and the media (Lotman; Baitello Jr.). The research is based on the concepts of performance, oral texts, "nomadism" (Zumthor); soundscape, earwitness, hi-fi/ lo-fi, sacred noise (Schafer), since song expresses, informs, support and presents cultural traits which refer, and which is linked. The research project started studying the presence of Portuguese Fado in the city of Santos. Afterwards, two projects involved the musical heritage of Italian descendants in Sao Paulo (1930-1980). Tango nomadism - tango in Brazil and the Brazilian one – were also investigated, as well as Latin-American genres in Castellan language in the mediatic culture from the 1950s (the bolero, in particular). Currently, the subject concerns the French song. French contribution had a noteworthy impact on Brazilian culture. More particularly, this study is dedicated to "love song"(l930- 1975), when the international song of European matrix loses prominence, giving place to Anglophonic rock and regional repertoires that come out Rio-São Paulo (head offices of the record companies). Let me stress that despite their importance, these musical genres had not received more consistent academic analysis considering a semiotic approach, most of the studies being devoted to song lyrics and their socio-historical context. The method is based on discographic repertoires broadcasted on radio programs, as well as the memory of earwitnesses to analyze, among others, aspects such as: 1 ) the relationship between hearing habits and musical/cultural memory, 2 ) the impact of permanence of artists (tours, hit parade) and the emergence of the "Brazilian versions"; 3) how did these musical pieces construct the everyday life soundscape; 4) the emergence of musical works as “documents/ monuments”( cf. Nora) from a particular period in the (mediatic) culture.
